Although we're in this awesome season of Lent in which we pray for a true conversion of heart, to be seen through our actions, I must admit that for my family, it feels a bit like Advent.
Already having two children, you'd think we'd be pros at figuring out when a baby is ready to enter the world. Not so much. Over the past week, our family has thought a number of times that we need to head to the hospital, meet our new child, and announce it to the world. But God simply laughs - how dare we determine the timing? :)
So as I sit here typing, I am grateful for all those who have prayed for my family, and its addition, over the last nine months. I am grateful for a loving wife, who makes this sacrifice of bearing a child so that our family can be more complete. I'm grateful for two awesome children, who are an active part of our school community. I'm grateful for grandparents, who are just waiting for that phone call (and have actually falsely already been called). I'm grateful for staff, particularly Fr. Paul, who understands the flexibility necessary at this time to balance job / family roles. But hey, I'd really like the feeling of Lent to come back in to our home!!
But the real reason for posting......
As you well know, or might be learning through this blog, as of July I will assume the role of Assistant Superintendent at the Office of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Madison. I'll be primarily responsible for the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and related duties for each of our schools. It's an awesome role, and although I'm saddened that I will no longer be in the captain's chair at OLA, working with greatness, I'm really excited to begin these new duties and help each and every school achieve greatness in these areas.
So thus, we've opened a search for the next Principal. There is a tremendous committee in place that meets already, determining the qualities that must be looked for in an ideal candidate. Please keep them in your prayers.
But also, keep in your prayers the next Principal, as well as those who applied for the position, discerned their role here, but did not receive the news they expected. For God has a plan for each of us, we are uniquely sent where we are needed - although personal feelings do tend to get in the way of that.
We'll keep in touch, moving forward, but know that the committee is moving very methodologically, paying attention to detail to find the best fit for OLA. And, of course, know that once the new Principal is announced, I will work with that individual to ensure the best transition possible.
And so, maybe it still feels like Advent.......
